I wanted to share this recipe I found  if you all like apples your gonna love this one!

Here in the South we love apples.  We like them any way you fix them.  Apple pies, apple dumplings, apple cake, applesauce or apple butter or fried apples, we like them all!   I call these my fat apple dumplings because they are big and bigger is better in the South.  This is a great recipe for the fall of the year.

Pastry ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup milk (I use 2 percent)
2 tablespoons sugar

Spread for Dough
1 tablespoon brown sugar for each piece of dough
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg for each piece of dough
1 slice of margarine for each piece of dough
4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

Sauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup margarine

Combine all ingredients for the pastry until makes a ball of dough.  Divide into 4 pieces, roll out each piece and spread with one tablespoon brown sugar, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg,  a pat of margarine or butter, and 1/4 of the apples.  In a pan on top of the stove combine the sauce ingredients and bring to a boil.  Boil until sugar melts or about 3 or 4 minutes.  Place the dumplings in a baking dish and pour the sauce over them.  Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes until brown on top.
Spoon extra sauce over dumplings and serve with ice cream or whipped cream.  Makes 4 large dumplings.  Enjoy!
